Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body, essential for bone structure, muscle contraction, nerve signaling, and blood clotting. While critical during growth and for those at risk of osteoporosis, recent research suggests that high-dose calcium supplements (>500mg at once) may increase cardiovascular risk — food sources and split doses are preferred. Calcium citrate is better absorbed than carbonate and can be taken without food.
TL;DR: Essential for bone health, but food sources preferred. If supplementing, always pair with Vitamin D3 and K2.
