Myo-inositol is the most abundant form of inositol, a carbocyclic sugar that acts as a second messenger in insulin signaling and neurotransmitter pathways. It has strong evidence for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), where it improves insulin sensitivity, restores ovulation, and reduces androgen levels at doses of 2-4g/day. Additional evidence supports its use for anxiety, OCD, and panic disorder at higher doses (12-18g/day), likely through modulation of serotonin receptor sensitivity.
TL;DR: Naturally occurring sugar alcohol with strong evidence for PCOS, panic disorder, and OCD. Gentle anxiolytic. Very safe at standard doses.
