Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) is rich in anthocyanins and flavonoids that have demonstrated antiviral properties, primarily by blocking viral glycoproteins. Meta-analyses of RCTs show that elderberry supplementation significantly reduces the duration and severity of upper respiratory infections, particularly colds and influenza. Most clinical evidence uses standardized elderberry extract at 175-600mg daily, with effects most pronounced when started within 24-48 hours of symptom onset.

TL;DR: Antiviral berry extract that reduces cold duration by ~2 days and flu by ~4 days. Use standardized syrup, never raw berries.
