Garlic (Allium sativum) contains organosulfur compounds — particularly allicin and its metabolites — with broad cardiovascular, immune, and antimicrobial properties. Meta-analyses of RCTs demonstrate clinically significant blood pressure reductions (~8-9 mmHg systolic), LDL cholesterol lowering, and a 64% reduction in cold incidence. Aged garlic extract (Kyolic) is the best-studied form for cardiovascular endpoints, while allicin-rich preparations have stronger antimicrobial activity.
